In a blog post on Sports Illustrated and on social media, five-star point guard Dior Johnson announced his verbal commitment to Syracuse on Friday night.
The 6-foot-2 Johnson plays at Mayfair High School in Lakewood, California. He’s the 13th-ranked prospect in the Class of 2022, according to ESPN. Johnson is 247Sports’ top point guard in the class.
“I don’t have anything against the Blue Bloods,” Johnson wrote in the blog post, “But I’m the kind of guy who wants to go to a school where I can play against them and beat them.”

Johnson, who averages over 25 points per game, took an unofficial visit to SU last week and was impressed by the Carrier Dome and the Orange’s fans.
Originally from Kingston, NY, Johnson played in the same AAU program as current SU shooting guard Buddy Boeheim. Johnson is the second member of the Class of 2022 to commit.
