Defender Bo van Kempen and midfielder Berber Bakermans were named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-American teams Tuesday. Van Kempen was named to the Second Team, while Bakermans earned a Third-Team selection.
After transferring from Liemers College (Netherlands) in the offseason, van Kempen starred on both ends of the ball for the Orange. Starting in 19 games, she played a pivotal role on a defensive front that secured six shutout victories throughout the year. She excelled most on penalty corners, though, scoring 13 of her team-leading 15 goals on corners.
After SU’s defeat to Harvard in the NCAA Tournament, van Kempen was named to the Mideast Region First Team. The honors join her First Team All-ACC selection prior to the ACC Tournament.
Bakermans didn’t have as much scoring production as van Kempen, but her defensive prowess and playmaking ability shined this year. She registered seven assists in 2024, tied for second on the team with Annabelle Vossenaar. Similarly to van Kempen, Bakermans was named to the Mideast Region First-Team following the NCAA Tournament.
In 2023, Syracuse also had two NFHCA All-American selections, as Eefke van den Nieuwenhof and Pieke van de Pas earned spots on the First and Second All-American teams, respectively.
