Syracuse men’s and women’s cross country each qualified for the NCAA Championships following their performances at the NCAA Northeast Regional on Friday.

The men’s squad won the Northeast Region for the 12th time in the last 15 years, scoring 72 points. Harvard placed second with 91 points, and nine points behind it was Cornell in third. Iona (103 points) and Yale (174) rounded out the top five finishers.

Redshirt junior Sam Lawler was first to cross the finish line for SU in the men’s 10k, placing second with a time of 29:52.47. Finishing six spots behind Lawler was redshirt freshman Benne Anderson with a 30:08.37 time. Fellow redshirt freshman Connor Ackley finished 18th (30:22.54), with senior Alex Comerford taking 19th (30:24.56). All four men earned USTFCCCA All-Region accolades for their top-20 finishes.

With 105 points, the women’s team earned a second-place finish. Providence claimed the top spot with 51 points on the afternoon. In third was Boston College with 131 points, while Harvard (144 points ) and Connecticut (151) took fourth and fifth place, respectively.

Redshirt senior Savannah Roark was first to finish for the Orange, taking ninth place with a time of 20:02.97. Redshirt junior Emma Eastman placed 17th with a 20:20.10 time, and two spots behind Eastman was redshirt senior Rylie Lusk (20:23.49). All three earned All-Region accolades for their performances. Redshirt senior Heidi Demeo placed 28th (20:37.72), with freshman Selma Anderson taking 32nd (20:46.99).

Syracuse will now have its sights set on the NCAA Championships in Madison, Wisconsin on Saturday, Nov. 23.
