Several campus store locations will temporarily close over the next two weeks as the Syracuse University Campus Store transitions its ownership to Barnes & Noble College, according to a Friday SU News release.

Affected locations include the campus store and market in Schine Student Center and the art and supply store in Slocum Hall, the release states. The Orange Shop in the JMA Wireless Dome will remain open for all upcoming SU sports games.

The campus store will close on Tuesday and the art and supply store will close on Friday. Both locations will reopen on Monday, Nov. 18. The campus store website will be down for maintenance from this Monday to Nov. 18 before being re-launched with a new URL, the release states.

SU announced in an Oct. 2 SU News release that BNC, a subsidiary of Barnes & Noble Education, would take over all operations of its campus store by 2025. John Papazoglou, SU’s senior vice president and chief operations officer, said in the release that the university made the decision due to the public’s transition away from traditional bookstores and physical books.

All full-time employees at campus store locations will be offered the option to work with BNC human resource representatives to apply for vacant positions in other parts of the university or for positions at the new stores, according to the Oct. 2 release.

Papazoglou and Associate Provost Julie Hasenwinkel have formed a working group with SU Libraries, faculty, students and staff for the transition, according to the Oct. 2 release. The group will focus on improving textbook adoption rates while increasing accessibility.

University apparel will be under the ownership of Lids and Fanatics as part of the transition into BNC ownership. Apparel from the two partner vendors will be available at the campus store locations and online starting in July 2025.

BNC management is set to fully take over campus store operations by Jan. 1.
