SU women finish 15th in 6k to highlight Paul Short Run competition

Syracuse cross country competed Saturday at the Paul Short Run. The Orange placed 44th in the men’s 8k run and 15th in the women’s 6k.

Syracuse men’s and women’s cross country competed in numerous races Saturday in the Paul Short Run, hosted by Lehigh University.

In the merged results of the 8k run, SU’s men’s team placed 44th out of 145 schools, scoring 1,361 points. Wingate easily took first place with 30 points, finishing 66 points ahead of second-place Harvard. Utah State was third (109 points), with Navy (182 points) and Cornell (188 points) rounding out the top five.

Junior Kamari Miller was first to cross the finish for SU in the men’s gold 8k, placing 83rd with a 24:38.7 time. Sophomore Julian Franjieh finished 148th with a 25:04.9 time. Fellow sophomore Solomon Holden-Betts (25:32.1), junior Patrick Malone (26:03.9) and sophomore Joey Hendershot (26:04.8) all finished in the top 300.

Syracuse’s women’s team placed 15th out of 155 teams in the merged results of the 6k run with 576 points. Harvard claimed the top spot with 137 points. Not too far behind was UConn, finishing second with 161 points. Princeton placed third, only five points behind the Huskies. Utah State (168 points) and Northeastern (264 points) filled in the remaining two spots of the top-five finishers.



Freshman Selma Anderson won the open race, crossing the line at the 21:02.9 mark. She finished 12 seconds ahead of the field.

In the women’s gold 6k, senior Baneet Bains placed 42nd with a 20:58.2 time. Second to cross the finish line for the Orange was freshman Sarah Lawson, placing 65th with a 21:06.1 time. Senior Justus Holden-Betts finished 102nd with a 21:26.1 time. Junior Bethany Steiner finished 11 spots behind with a 21:31.3 time.

Syracuse will get ready for its next meet on Oct. 18, where the Orange will travel to New Jersey for the Princeton Fall Classic.
