Syracuse alum Nicholas Kohl will represent Italy at the 2024 Summer Olympics as part of the men’s 4 event. Kohl and his crew earned their spot in Paris when they placed first at the Final Olympic Qualification Regatta in May. They crossed the line in 6:00.2, narrowly edging out Switzerland and Germany for one of the final two Olympic berths.

Kohl rowed for the Orange from 2019-2023, where he steered SU’s varsity 8 to three straight Intercollegiate Rowing Association Grand Final appearances. He was also named a First Team All-American twice — in 2021 and 2023.

Before his time at SU, Kohl competed in the 2018 and 2019 U23 World Championships. In 2018, he placed seventh in the men’s 8. The next year, Kohl improved on his performance by claiming a bronze medal.

In Paris, Kohl will first compete in the heat races on July 28. The men’s 4 final is scheduled for Aug. 1, if his boat qualifies.
