Syracuse men’s soccer has hired goalkeeping coach Santiago Restrepo, the program announced Friday. Restrepo started coaching in 2020 following a brief professional career with AFC Roatán in the Honduran second division and the Greenville Triumph in the USL League One. His first coaching stop was at Boiling Springs High School before joining his alma mater at USC Upstate.

Restrepo played for the Spartans from 2014-17, making 14 career starts while registering 47 saves and allowing 1.91 goals per game. At USC Upstate, Restrepo served as the goalkeeping coach for three seasons before joining the Greenville Liberty SC of the USL W League in the same position. A year later, he was hired by the Greenville Triumph to be their goalie coach.

Currently, Syracuse’s roster has four goalkeepers including Jahiem Wickham, Jason Smith, Sam Coss and Tomas Hut. Taking over for Russell Shealy, Smith started the first eight games in 2023, but Wickham soon established himself as the number one keeper, starting SU’s final 13 games. Wickham recorded five shutouts and earned Atlantic Coast Conference defender of the week after two consecutive clean sheets against Colgate and North Carolina.
