After a 1-1 tie to Boston College, Syracuse men’s soccer (7-3-6, 2-1-5 Atlantic Coast Conference) dropped to No. 22 in the United Soccer Coaches top 25 poll released Tuesday. The poll is the last of the regular season, meaning the Orange were ranked inside the top 25 for the duration of the year.

Friday’s draw with BC got off to a fast start. Forward Lorenzo Boselli — who had come off the bench in each of the previous two games — powered a shot past Eagles’ goalkeeper Brennan Klein in the fifth minute, giving the Orange a 1-0 lead. Boselli had another shot from the top of the box that Klein saved just 11 minutes later.

From there, though, Syracuse failed to register another shot on goal. Boston College equalized in the 35th minute off of freshman Xavier O’Neil’s first-career goal. Neither team found a go-ahead goal, sealing a 1-1 result. It was the Orange’s second consecutive draw, as they also tied NC State 1-1 five days prior. The Eagles (No. 12) and the Wolfpack (No. 11) ended the year as the bottom two seeds in the ACC Tournament.

“We’re disappointed that we hadn’t got three points against NC State and Boston College, but that also tells you the expectations of this group,” said Syracuse head coach Ian McIntyre following the Oct. 27 draw against BC. “And that’s a good problem to have.”

Syracuse is set for a rematch with NC State on Wednesday in the first round of the conference tournament. In their initial meeting, the Orange totaled 18 shots while the Wolfpack registered two. However, each of NC State’s attempts were on target, with Hakim Karamoko breaking open the scoring in the 51st minute. SU equalized off an own goal in the 77th minute to avoid leaving the match without a point.
