Syracuse resident comments on New York’s 24th Congressional District race

Dear Editor,

In an article for Newsweek, John Haltiwanger said, “Senator Bernie Sanders is the most popular politician in America, according to a Harvard-Harris poll. In fact, the Vermont senator and former presidential candidate is the only politician in the U.S. who most voters like.”

In his 2016 presidential campaign, Sanders told the truth about an America that had morphed into plutocracy, debunked the myth of American exceptionalism and offered proven 99 percent remedies. He suggested that healthcare for all was a right, that a minimum wage should be a livable wage, that American criminal justice is smacked of racism and that the cost of education was too damn high. Sander’s 99 percent remedy had the potential of fueling a Democratic landslide in the midterm elections.

(Rep. John) Katko’s Trump’s tax scam vote puts New York’s 24th Congressional District up for grabs. Isn’t it curious that the Democratic candidates are focusing on a “choice” and an anti-Trump message instead of Sander’s 99 percent remedy? Seems like the Democrats are mired in stale politics rather than 99 percent remedies.

Sincerely,

Marlin “Mike” Kisselstein
