SA Briefs: 3 takeaways from Monday’s meeting (March 7)

Here are four takeaways from the Syracuse University Student Association’s meeting Monday night in Maxwell Auditorium:

Orange SUccess

Kal Srinivas, director for retention in the Office of Academic Programs, gave a presentation about the advising tool Orange SUccess at the meeting. Every school and college will implement the system in fall 2016 and every faculty member and student will be in the system then as well, Srinivas said.

Campus Climate

Only 11 percent of undergraduate students and 16 percent of graduate students have completed the campus climate survey, SA Vice President Jane Hong said at the meeting. SU officials fear that not enough students will complete the survey to warrant using its results, she said.

Syllabi visibility

SA plans to continue work on the syllabi visibility initiative, which seeks to implement a policy that enables students to view syllabi before enrolling in classes.

Preferred name policy

At the meeting, the SA assembly discussed the preferred name policy, a policy that would allow students to have emails and other documents issued to the name of their choice. SA officials hope this policy will be implemented in the fall 2016 semester, Hong said.
