SU's play during Jim Boeheim's nine-game suspension will "certainly" be taken into account by the NCAA Tournament selection committee in March.

The NCAA will “certainly” weigh Syracuse’s play during Jim Boeheim’s nine-game suspension differently when evaluating the Orange for the NCAA Tournament, the NCAA told The Daily Orange in an email Wednesday afternoon.

The statement came from NCAA Division I men’s basketball committee chair Joe Castiglione via NCAA Director of Media Coordination David Worlock.

“The committee will certainly take that into consideration when evaluating Syracuse for possible selection into the field, and seeding as well in the event the Orange make the field,” Worlock said of Boeheim’s suspension in the email.

Syracuse posted a 4-5 record in Mike Hopkins’ time as interim head coach. Since Boeheim’s return, SU has gone 6-2 with losses only to No. 7 Virginia and No. 9 North Carolina.

Currently, the Orange sits at 16-8 overall with a 6-5 record in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Syracuse has won four games against Top 25 teams but didn’t receive any votes in the most recent Associated Press Top 25 poll. SU next faces Florida State (16-7, 6-5) at 7 p.m. in the Carrier Dome on Thursday.
